FAQ

I’m familiar with Paris, but can you tell me about Le Marais?

Le Marais is one of the central quartiers of Paris. It is located on the right bank and has a great blend of historical buildings, natural beauty and a feeling that you are in the middle of an active Parisien neighborhood versus a tourist neighborhood. Some people like to compare Le Marais to Greenwich Village

Is the neighborhood safe?

Yes! This is one of the reasons we chose to live here. We’ve walked home from dinner very late and have never felt uncomfortable at all in Le Marais. As with any big city, you need to take care on metros or if you venture into crowded public areas, especially where there are a lot of tourists.

What is the best way to get to and from the apartment?

A taxi is the easiest but if there is heavy traffic it can take a long time. The RER (regional train) and Metro is probably the fastest and certainly the cheapest (approximately 10 euros). If you have a lot of heavy bags, however, a taxi is your best option.

How do we get into the apartment?

Our property manager will make arrangements with you to meet you at the apartment.

Do you have air conditioning?

No. We have been considering getting air-conditioning and may add it in the future. So far we have found that given the apartment layout, we always get a good cross breeze by opening the windows. We also have fans to help when needed.

Are the appliances hard to operate? Is everything in French?

The appliances are easy to operate: if you know how to use a dishwasher or washing machine at home, you will know how to use the one in our apartment. If things are not clear, we have personally written an English guide to all the appliances which contains simplified instructions. If you have any problems, you can always contact our property manager.

Can we fit four adults in the apartment?

Yes, but it will be a bit snug. The bed in the bedroom is a queen-sized bed and the one in the living is a double-sized sofa bed.

Do you allow children? What about babies?

Yes, we do allow children, but only with advance notice that they will be coming. If you have a baby a need special sleeping arrangements, we can arrange for a baby bed/Pak "n" Play.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept payment by credit card, wire transfer, paypal and check.

Do you provide discounts for extended stays?

Yes. We do provide discounts for extended stays based on our normal occupancy rates during those months. The discount can range from 5% to 20%.

How far in advance do you receive bookings?

For the most popular months, we typically receive bookings at least 6 months to a year in advance. Please contact us as early as possible even if your plans are tentative so we can pencil you in and contact you as we receive other requests.

Are there any special offers, such as for last minute stays?

Yes. Though rare, we sometimes have openings the last minute or last minute cancellations. We do offer discounts for those dates.

We need 8 days but you only have 7 days open, what should we do?

If you are comfortable with changing places, we can recommend hotels a few blocks away where you could stay for the extra day.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Normal check-in time is between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and normal check-out time is 11:00 a.m. We do allow for people to arrive earlier at the apartment to drop their bags off and to pick up the keys. For a nominal fee, you can have early or late check-in. Every so often, we have same day arrivals and departures, which can lead to a cleaning overlap with your arrival. In such cases, we ask that you be patient while the cleaning team finishes up their work. When these overlaps arise, we suggest that you go out and have a leisurely breakfast while savouring the joy of being in Paris.

Do we need to pay a security deposit?

No. However, by signing a rental agreement you agree that any damage or loss will be charged to your credit card, up to US$600.00. We have seldom had to charge a guest’s credit card for damage and have never had a dispute.

Why do you charge separately for cleaning?

We receive this question a lot. The reason why the cleaning is charged separately is because whereas the rental is charged and processed in the USA by an American company (to faciliate payments by check and credit card), the cleaning fee is invoiced by the French company separately.

What is your cancellation policy?

The cancellation of a booking must be made in writing and will be accepted for a full refund, minus an $80.00 processing fee, if received at least 8 weeks prior to your arrival date. If you cancel less than 8 weeks before the arrival date, your deposit/payment will be forfeited unless we are able to re-rent the apartment for your dates.
